Speaker: Mary Norris, The New Yorker “Comma Queen” returns to Dutch Treat to talk about her acclaimed new memoir, Greek to Me: Adventures of the Comma Queen, a buoyant book about language, love and the wine-dark sea, an ode to the joy of
exercising free reign in one’s life. Her book is a charming, ribald, highly informed and always funny excursion through the language, culture and oddities of Greece and the Greek language. Vivian Gornick’s review in The New York Times Book Review said “One of the most satisfying accounts of a great passion that I have ever read.”
Entertainer: Soprano and historical harpist Marcia Young, a founding member of My Lord Chamberlain’s Consort and the medieval trio Trefoil, also performs frequently with lutenists Andy Rutherford and Chris Morrongiello. In reason seasons she has appeared with Parthenia and Piffaro; the Folger, Bacheler, and Newberry Consorts; at the Connecticut, Amherst, Madison, Gretna, and Washington Early Music Festivals; The Royal Oak Society; the Ars Antiqua series in Chappaqua, New York; the Distinguished Artists Series in Syosset; the Ridotto series in Huntington; The United States Military Academy at West Point; the HotShops Gallery space in Omaha; and the Lute Society of America Conference and Seminar in Cleveland. She serves as Director of Performance Studies for the department of music at Stern College, Yeshiva University, and hosts classical programs over WQXR-FM New York.
